Lagoa dos Patos lies along the very edge of southernmost Brazil on the Southern Atlantic coast. This true-color Terra MODIS image was acquired July 23, 2002, during the Southern Hemisphere’s early spring season. Lagoa dos Patos (middle right) features murky swirls of tan sediment, likely from the JacuC- River that empties into it in the northwest (top right). At its southern end, Lagoa dos Patos connects to Lagoa Mirim (bottom middle), which crosses Uruguay’s northern border.At Lagoa dos Patos#8217; northern edge, where it meets the JacuC- River, sits the city of Porto Alegre, the largest city in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.
